Conversations Paired with a Glass of Whiskey

Whiskey just makes conversations more enjoyable. Not because of alcohol's dangerous ability to loosen things up and impair, but because every whiskey and distillery, just like people, has a story. Our conversations aim to learn and embrace other's unique perspectives. What better way to do so than with a glass of your favorite whiskey?
My most memorable conversations are those with which a dram of whiskey - or a proudly brewed in Wisconsin beer - is had. (That may just be the Midwesterner in me). Since exploring my ever expanding palate, I've become more of a snob when it comes to whiskey. I've come to savor it in a more meaningful manner, finding myself engaged in learning the intricacies of distillation and following the nose and taste.
Whiskey can be smooth. Political conversations or disagreements in today's chaotic climate rarely are. While politics will be covered on this podcast - it is far from our end all be all. We want to have lots of unrelated content. For example, our topic for the month of June? Discussing the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+.
However, with any discussion had on The Cogan Conversation, we aim for honest engagement, listening, and understanding. As with whiskey, people have unique stories and backgrounds. The current mash bill of US political theatre may be 50% Red and 50% Blue. But the mash bill of her people is so much more complex.
We ought to celebrate those complexities, invite dissent, and most importantly, engage with the uncomfortable. Whiskey can be a harsh, burning, and uninspired experience. But give it patience, technique, and an open mind? That rubbing alcohol sensation turns into fruity aromas with hints of vanilla and caramel. Bringing forth an understanding of the spirit you never knew existed. People deserve this same patience and understanding. Approaching them with an inquisitive lens rather than a judgmental one. Awareness that people, as with whiskey, are products of their environment. We have to be willing to engage in conversations in the same way we try new whiskey. And lets be honest, whiskey itself may make that conversation a little smoother!
Whiskey was never intended to be the main attraction on this podcast - but it is a fun, passion-filled backdrop full of opportunity to learn more about the spirit we've come to love. We'll give some non-expert recommendations, share our favorites, and even have a few blog posts or podcasts dedicated to why we love whiskey.
A good whiskey is a whiskey you enjoy, but the best whiskey is one shared with good company.
